The Commercial Underwriter in the Community Associations program (Community Association Package Insurance - Distinguishedspecializes and serves a variety of associations such as Condo, HOAs, and Co-Ops.  You will work closely with brokers to ensure the accuracy of underwriting information, determine eligibility within program guidelines, work within your individual underwriting authority. One crucial aspect of this role is to ensure that all underwriting files contain the necessary and mandatory documentation.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Manage renewal list to maximize policy retention including midterm servicing with various carriers and brokers, and evaluate new submissions to ensure proper risk selection, premium and coverage, within your authority in an assigned territory.
  • Underwrite community association risks within the granted level of authorities by identifying and analyzing risk exposures, loss frequency and severity against desired coverage.
  • Navigate our online broker portal to complete tasks and troubleshoot.
  • Consult with clients on coverage and terms while adhering to rating rules with proper file documentation.
  • Monitor data entry and processing to ensure data integrity.
  • Communicate with insurance brokers to obtain information needed to underwrite risks, respond to questions and address issues.
  • Develop relationships with both external and internal customers, with the "customer experience" in mind, and deliver exceptional experiences with every interaction, in all modes of communication.
  • Work independently within deadlines while understanding the necessity for appropriate prioritization, communicating and coordinating work efforts with stakeholders.
  • Maintain quality control, compliance and proper documentation.
  • Gather competitor information and market intelligence, and understand trends to identify opportunities for improvements to products and pricing.
  • Serve as back-up support to other team members on an as needed basis.
  • Other duties as assigned.

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum 3 years of commercial package insurance underwriting experience.
  • Community Associations/Lesser's Risk/Real Estate insurance knowledge is a plus.
  • Desire to learn D&O, crime, and umbrella policies.
  • Property and Casualty insurance license required (6 month preparation time permitted).
  • Aptitude for computer-based work; ability to achieve technical skills with Distinguished’s software applications.
  • Detail oriented, possess strong organizational skills including time-management and the ability to prioritize amongst various immediate needs.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills including phone skills.
  • Analytical and quantitative skills.
  • Ability to develop working relationships with both internal and external customers. High level of interpersonal skills to deal effectively with retail insurance brokers and co-workers.
  • Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and comfortably adapt to change.
  • Must be self-driven, detail oriented, flexible/adaptable, comfortable in a growing ever-changing organization, and have strong organizational skills including time-management and prioritization.
  • Some travel may be required from time to time for team and broker meetings.

LOCATION
  • This is a hybrid role that reports to our NYC - Midtown Manhattan office with flexible work from home options available.

COMPENSATION AND PERKS
  • $60,000 - $85,000 base salary plus yearly cash bonus. Salary commensurate with knowledge, skills, experience, and geographic location.
